E3 Webinar Series: Engage. Educate. Empower.

We are proud to continue E3: Engage, Educate, Empower, HeartLife's webinar series designed to connect lived experience with trusted clinical expertise, all centered on the topics that matter most to our community.

This session focuses on living well with heart disease: self-management and early warning signs. Self-care starts with actively managing your risk factors, monitoring for changes in symptoms, and taking action as needed. We will explore how to know when to contact your health care provider by detecting symptom changes and recognizing another heart attack before it happens, and how to clearly communicate continued symptoms to allow for timely and appropriate care. Positioning survivors to participate, or lead, discussions with their health care providers empowers us to live heart healthy and advocate for better health-related quality of life.

Steve Collins is a heart attack survivor and community volunteer based in Ottawa. After 32 years in education, working as a science teacher, vice-principal, and principal, he suffered a heart attack in August 2024, just two months into retirement. Following his cardiac intervention and rehabilitation, Steve has turned his attention to staying active and connected within his local community. He will share his lived experience of heart disease and the questions he has about self-management going forward.

Dr. Leslie Davis, Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina and part-time nurse practitioner in the Division of Cardiology at UNC, will share insight into the importance of self-care in improving health after a heart attack: taking care of our health, knowing what signs and symptoms to watch for, and how to clearly communicate with health care providers.

The session will conclude with a moderated Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the speakers.

Whether you are living with cardiovascular conditions, supporting someone who is, or looking to better understand your own heart health, this webinar offers education, insight, and empowerment you can take forward with confidence.
